Frequently Asked Questions

Is this QR generator really free?
Yes, completely free with no hidden costs. There are no premium tiers, no watermarks, and no limits on how many QR codes you can create. We're supported by non-intrusive advertising.
Is my data safe and private?
Absolutely. All QR code generation happens directly in your browser. Your data never leaves your device — we don't upload, store, or have access to any information you enter.
Can I use the QR codes for commercial purposes?
Yes, you can use QR codes generated here for any purpose — personal, commercial, print, digital, or anything else. There are no licensing restrictions or attribution requirements.
What is Batch Mode and how do I use it?
Batch Mode lets you generate multiple QR codes at once. You can paste a list of URLs or data, or upload a CSV/Excel/JSON file. All codes are styled consistently and downloaded as a ZIP file. Perfect for inventory labels, event badges, or marketing materials.
What error correction level should I use?
For most uses, Medium (M) works well. Use High (H) or Quartile (Q) if you're adding a logo (it covers part of the code) or if the QR will be printed small or in harsh conditions. Low (L) creates simpler codes but is less resilient to damage.
Why is my QR code not scanning?
Common issues: Low contrast between colors (use dark on light), code printed too small (minimum 2cm/0.8in), logo too large (keep under 20% of code area), or damaged/dirty surface. Use our QR Analyzer to check quality before printing.

What is a QR Code?

QR codes (Quick Response codes) are two-dimensional barcodes that can store various types of information. Invented in 1994 by Denso Wave, a Japanese automotive company, QR codes were originally designed to track vehicles during manufacturing. Today, they're used everywhere — from restaurant menus to payment systems.

Brief History

Created in 1994 by Masahiro Hara at Denso Wave. The name "QR" stands for "Quick Response" — they were designed to be decoded quickly. Unlike traditional barcodes, QR codes can be scanned from any angle and hold much more data.

How They Work

QR codes use a matrix of black and white squares to encode data. The three large squares in the corners help scanners identify and orient the code. Error correction algorithms allow codes to remain readable even when partially damaged or obscured.

Interesting Facts

A single QR code can store up to 7,089 numeric characters or 4,296 alphanumeric characters. The technology is open-source and free to use. QR codes can encode URLs, text, WiFi credentials, contact cards, calendar events, and much more.
